The Telephone Campaign is run by the Tonbridge School Development Office with the specific objectives of raising money for Excellence for All, updating the community on school news and forthcoming events and answering any questions there may be. This summer the team of  14 Young OTs, who will be based in Old Judde language laboratory, will be talking to parents and OTs between 3rd – 17th July.

As many will know, Tonbridge is going through its biggest development programme since the 19th Century. Following the launch of the Excellence for All campaign, we have made tremendous progress transforming the School campus, improving the educational experience for all boys, and offering more bursaries to families who would otherwise have been unable to consider a Tonbridge education.


The Official Opening of the Smythe Library

Tonbridge School’s transformed Smythe Library has been officially unveiled by Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra – over 50 years after she opened the original building.

The library, which was constructed in 1962, has been extended and refurbished to reflect the growing school, changes in the curriculum, the use of modern technology and the need for flexible teaching spaces.


New York OT Dinner, Friday 21st October

On Friday 21st October at the Brook Club, New York, over 30 Old Tonbridgians, friends and staff, attended the 2016 US OT Dinner with the Headmaster Tim Haynes and Andy Whittall, Director of the Tonbridge Society.


The Science Centre launch event

On Saturday 5th March, we launched the exciting plans for the new Science Centre at the School. Over 60 parents were welcomed with test-tube smoothies and some ‘experimental’ refreshments in Old Big School, before a detailed presentation of the plans.


Library Progress

We are delighted to report that work began during the summer holidays on this exciting project. The initial enabling works involved relocating the Bursary offices, erection of a fence around the site, some ground works and and with the help of some willing members of staff, the Library’s bounteous supply of books, and learning resources were boxed and moved to the temporary library in the Quad.


Telethon Success

This year’s telephone campaign was one of our most successful ever. Our team of 14 student callers spoke to over 600 Old Tonbridgians and parents, and everyone spoken to appeared to really enjoy their conversations, and many stories were relayed about Tonbridge both past and present.


Dry Hill House English Extension

Campaign progress to date – we’re getting there!

Thanks to the wonderful support and generosity of parents and OTs we have so far raised an astonishing £4.1m towards our campaign target of £6m. This means we are well on the way to deliver our exciting plans for a transformed library learning centre, a world-class science building and enabling more boys to come to the School through our Foundation Award bursary programme.


2015 Foundation Cricket and Tennis Inter-House Competition

The third year of the Foundation Cup was always going to be a thriller; the big question was could Whitworth pull off a hat-trick? Adding to the pressure was that this year it was to be a combined event with both tennis and cricket. This added more complexity and the challenge to win in both sub-tournaments to gain the over all victory. We had over 250 players and over 100 spectators on site all ready to enjoy a day of ‘champagne’ and Corinthian sport.


The Tonbridge School Hong Kong Gala Dinner

On the 11th of April in the wonderful surroundings of the Hong Kong Club over 200 parents, former parents, current boys and Old Tonbridgians came together to celebrate the School’s special relationship with Hong Kong that stretches back well over a quarter of a century.
